I was just in New York City to see the Rockefellar tree and many other buildings Christmas decorations. I went to see the tree lighting event but could not get in cause it was at capacity. I mean there was so many people. I could hear the celebrities talking. I was able to see them light the tree. It was like a New Years countdown and was pretty to see it go from a normal tree to a well decorated & beautiful tree. It is a tall and very pretty tree to look at. It’s even better looking at night. It is up until a few days into New Years. The tree lighting is a long awaited event for the city. People ice skate below the tree.
The rest of New York City has Christmas decorations on buildings that are beautiful and light up at night. Many places have Christmas like displays that move, such as the mirror in snow white. People stop and take pictures. They even have Christmas in New York stores. Macy’s is really in the Christmas spirit as it has Christmas displays in it’s window that move and people stop to look. They have Santa land on the top level with Santa’s elves, a train and you can sit in Santa’s lap saying what you want for Christmas. OH in addition I got the Old Man from Christmas Story.
New York is a fabulous place to visit Christmas time and I truly recommend it. In fact places every where have great Christmas decorations, like the Tilted Kilt having the Santa Hat on their knight. The White Marsh Avenue shopping center in Baltimore has a Christmas tree with an ice skating rink.
Washington DC too has its own Christmas Events. They have a National Tree lighting ceremony at the end of November. It is near the White House. It’s a special event you need tickets for and gated off. There is security and I mean lots. The event has the president and Santa Claus.

Today the final curtain in the Weirs Beach Drive in closes. It opened 69 years ago and only operated in the summer months. Many classic movies have shown here. It is sad to see it go. It was right next to the Italian Faro and Thurston’s Marina on Weirs Blvd. This has been rumored for a couple years. Well, it was sold as the owner was ready to retire and the value of the land exceeded the business. What will happen is it will be turned into condominiums. Thy showed movies in separate screens while people can watch in their cars or sit out side their car with chairs they take along, well you can even watch two movies at once. Popcorn was served. Even people from Concord and Nottingham drove to see its last showing. The movie showing is Hitman’s Body Guard and Baby Driver. This iconic staple will be missed. But a fact, Drive-ins have been rapidly declining.
Name what movie you have seen here in the comments below.
Pier 19 in Weirs closes today including gas. FAREWELL SUMMER 2017. It was a great one!
Here is a Story of the Boston Comic Con that recently happened. It was held in the Boston Convention Center near East Boston. It was sooo busy that police had to direct traffic and direct people to parking spaces. People came there dressed as characters, like Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad (I saw that costume a lot), Doctor Octopus from Spider-man 2, Joker, Deadpool, Star Wars characters, Spider-man etc etc. I Forgot to dress up as I rushed to get there for parking.
The Comic Con featured celebrities to sign their auto graphs and have selfies with. Like Jim Cummings who has played many Disney characters, Billy West who played Stimpy on Ren and Stimpy and was in Futurama, Anthony Daniels who was 3CPO and they had a 3CPO Robot in his booth. On my Facebook I made a live video of it. They had much of the Rocky Horror Picture show cast there. Like they had Barry Bostwick who played Brad the hero, Susan Sarandon who played Janet Weiss, Patricia Quinn who played Magenta. Tim Curry (Who played Frank N Furter in the movie, as well as Pennywise the Clown, Long John Silver from Muppet Treasure Island and villains in Peter Pan and the Pirates, Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks, The Mask animated series etc) was there but in a wheel chair as he had a stroke. It cost me $120 to have a photo opp w him and they printed a photo of him. It cost more to have a photo opp of the Whole Rocky Horror Picture show cast. In addition they had Stan Lee’s last East Coast appearance and people sign his auto graphs. A friend of mine had her son sign his autograph. Sad how I never got that chance. OH, they had Star Wars moving displays that were popular. They had displays of merchandise. Of Course they had to raise the prices due to the event and the businesses splitting costs as ya have to make more than breaking even in business. In addition the event was so jammed packed it was bottle necking.
the Manchester NH Granite State Comic Con is Sept 15 to 17 here http://www.granitecon.com/ and it’s at Radisson Inn. It’s a smaller version of the Comic Con I covered.
Pictures below are of the Event
Today is Laconia’s 125 Celebration held in downtown. Next year Laconia will turn 125, next Tuesday will be the Passenger Station’s 125th Anniversary but I guess they decided to hold it the weekend closest to it. In downtown where it was held near the bank and Train Station. They had 50 minute train rides. There were people dressed as train conductors. I wonder why they don’t have a Polar Express named one hahaa. They had a kids area for kids to ride a kiddie train around in a circle near Burrito Me. They had a petting Zoo of lamb. There were vendors selling wares like Handmade crafts, including Halloween ones. The Laconia Eatery had a pig roast. They had musicians sing in a stage. Near the Train Station was newspaper clippings of this past Tuesday’s article of the event coming up on this stand as well as 125 balloons near it and a list of sponsors and people working the event signing. They even had someone from the Sea Shore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport Maine come here to give a history. The Library even had advertised this. Laconia does a great job in dealing w our history. The Pumpkin Festival is this coming October 14!! Bank of NH always sponsors in these events. I will cover that event as well! But today’s event was a significant event and the closed off parts of the streets. They had great weather for it.
Each Advertiser I mention has their own special events that draws in more customers and they do a great job at that too. Here is a list of of events for each for the rest of the 2017 season. Each has created their own niche and customer base and with everything else they have done a great job with that.
PARADISE BEACH CLUB
Paradise Beach Club is a beach themed Bar in the Weirs Beach that hosts gigs that draws in traffic every Friday and Saturday. Much of it is modeled after the famed Key West Florida, in fact much of the staff loves to visit there. A very popular one is Tigerlilly. They do have a cover for bands. They have VIP Tables and seats and that can be used for Bachelorette parties. It draws in many people who love to go boating. They have an outdoor patio. They serve awesome Prime Rib. They draw in tons of business during Bike week and host events for it every day during it. I enjoy going there to watch the bands and meet up with friends. In addition I enjoy promoting their events and love being an asset to the owners business. The owners are Brett and Krista Loring. They are great and kind people. The bartenders are friendly and serve fast. They are open from first weekend of May to Saturday before Halloween or Halloween Saturday if Halloween falls on Saturday. I get really sad when it’s closed for the season! In addition, I have made many friends here.
